Happy New Year from the Abel Family

As we contemplate the end of 2021, who can help but ponder that suddenly; it looks very much like the end of 2020.  Yes, we are back to vigilance and compromise, but we hope that you like us, remain healthy and optimistic.

No surprise, our short trip at the beginning of January was cancelled this year.  Here is Mumtaz on her birthday.  Later in the year we were able to do more to make special occasions festive

Rehana, Ayaan, Inaya, and Laila check in from Montreal

Groundhog Day was an online affair this year … the broadcast from Punxsutawney was brilliant.  Wiarton Willie sadly passed away some time before Groundhog Day.

For Fathers’ Day, we return to a backyard celebration, unfortunately this was not possible for Mothers’ Day, but we did what we could to make it festive.

We celebrate Egg Day on June 3 for the first time.

By mid-July all of us have been vaccinated twice and, while still vigilant, things relaxed a bit.

Clearly the most exciting event of the year.  Sam and Trevor purchase an apartment.  Here is a photo of their splendid terrarium, Lucy and JB seem quite happy with their new surroundings.  We’re happy to report that the move was smooth and the glitches were few.

In late July, it is Trevor’s Birthday.  Sam treated him to a visit to Haute Goat, Southern Ontario’s highest quality goat experience

                        Hartwell’s Lock                                                       Morris Island

Gatineau from Rockliffe

In mid-August, we travel to Ottawa over a long weekend.

Here are Anver and Zabeena on Zabeena’s birthday at the end of August.

Sam and Trevor vacation in Haliburton in September

In Mid-October, all of us travelled to British Columbia.

On Board the Ferry to Victoria

Active Pass

Malahat Summit on Vancouver Island

Strolling about in Surrey

Walking on the pier in White Rock (in the rain)

We finally celebrated Sam’s PhD.

Also in October, we visit the Halton Radial Railway

We rode on this Peter Witt Streetcar as well as a CLRV and a PCC.  This Oakwood streetcar ran along Eglinton Avenue in front of where our family lived until 1973.

Annual fall foliage trip to Belfountain (a little early, but still quite nice)

Ayaan, Inaya and Laila at Halloween

Halloween at Sam and Trevor’s

October was quite a good month for photography.  Check out our annual trip to Belfountain in the Caledon Hills and, of course Halloween.

We’re happy to have some photos from Halloween. Next year, we will return to the annual tradition of attending the shadow cast performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Bloor Street Cinema.

In November, Luke and Daniela drop by.

It is their 10th Wedding Anniversary; hard to believe that 10 years have passed since their fabulous Wedding Celebration.

JB enjoying the holiday season, unlike Lucy, he takes well to hats.

Hmmm, must have dozed off; looks a lot like last year.

We curtailed our usual December traditions again this year. Luckily, we managed a visit with Sam and Trevor in mid-December; let’s hope that things improve soon.

On February 22/22, it’s a once in a lifetime holiday … Two’s Day.

At the end of February, I will retire from my current career and transition to semi-retirement.  In the next New Years’ Card from the Abel Family, watch for new travels, experiences, and adventures.

From all of us

Best Wishes for a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2022
