Summer Vacation

The original blog entry for this year’s summer vacation was unusually long mainly because we only took Mumtaz’s camera with us and the camera was stolen right after we visited Mount Rushmore and did the spectacular Iron Mountain Drive and Custer State Park Nature Loop. I added links to material that made up for the missing photos. I may redo that but for now:

The trip was entirely by light plane, we departed Grimsby in the early morning. We cleared customs at Detroit City Airport, which was an exceptionally and surprisingly pleasant stop. Next we flew to Joliet to visit Harry, Linda, Allie and Justin; thanks for hosting us, we had a great time. We finished the day with a flight to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Next day we flew to Rapid City, picked up our lime green rental car. After the day at Mount Rushmore etc., we headed for Deadwood where the camera was stolen. Next day was a quick stop at the Kicking Horse Monument, then the Jewel Caves, then the town of Custer for a buffalo meat lunch, followed by the wonderful Needles Drive and a stop at Sylvan Lake where we witnessed a lakeside wedding which was cool because it was our wedding anniversary. There are photos of the Needles Drive taken with my phone … we did some more hiking and touring the next day followed by buying another camera in Rapid City.

The slide shows that used to be on this page are no longer supported; the photos can be found here
