2 rain storms in August dumped more rain on to North St. Catharines than could ever be managed by a municipal water system. Click here for news report with some dramatic images.

We were not affected as seriously as many just a block or two away but we did have water enter a portion of our basement during the first flood which we discovered on arriving back from out of town. We removed the water using the carpet shampooer. We actively removed water as it entered during the second flood and everything was dry within a couple of days. That said, as I write this, I’m preparing to cut portions of the basement carpet as we’re worried about what might be happening underneath.

In the end, even though we thought that we were through this event unscathed and that may not be the case, we were very very lucky to have avoided significant damage.
