2024, Quebec City, What

Quebec City / Kingston

In early July we travel to Quebec City.

We are continuing a new trend of using the U.S. route through Syracuse and Watertown for about 1/2 of our trips towards Montreal, Ottawa and beyond or returning. This time the trip started on a Sunday after U.S. Independence Day and crossing to the U.S was very congested indeed. My usual gambit of cleverly approaching the Rainbow Bridge using interior routes failed spectacularly, Niagara Falls was completely grid locked so 2 1/2 hours were lost on using the U.S. route. Conclusion, most of the time, the U.S. route is a good idea, this time it was clearly not.

That said, we always enjoy an overnight stop in Watertown, New York and we were not disappointed on this trip.

Pursuing a leisurely approach to this trip, we moved on to Montreal for the night where we dropped in on Rehana, Naeem and kids for dinner.

Then on to Quebec City where we enjoyed revisiting old haunts. There is always some sort of festival in progress in Quebec City, this time it was the Music Festival, entirely outdoor. We had a front row seat as they evacuated all the venues due to a dangerous remnant of a hurricane passing through the region.

While based in Quebec City, we travelled to Baie St. Paul in the Charlevoix region via Ste. Anne de Beaupre and Mont Ste. Anne. First time to the area and it is very scenic indeed; too bad it was a bad weather day.

It has been a very long time since we have toured Kingston so we chose to spend 2 days there on the way back home. Weather was great, we opted for the harbour tour which was terrific and we found a great restaurant. Kingston very easy to tour by car. We just missed a Fort Henry performance which I have been trying to see for decades, maybe next time.

So, a couple of notes about photos: I consider the slide show a rather poor effort, I won’t reedit it but I will do better next time; also, this will be the first post using new techniques that I am forced to implement due to issues with OneDrive.
