Winter Wrap Up – 2

You will notice the “-2” in the title. On August 16, Abelfamily.ca was hacked and I was forced to restore to an early winter backup. Watch for my technical round up on this once all the missing pages have been rebuilt.

I commonly let blog updates fall a bit behind in the winter so here are multiple topics.

Mumtaz’s Birthday

Mumtaz’s birthday in early January is usually the first post of the year. This year we delayed celebrations to early February as early January was a bit challenging. We decided to consolidate birthday and Groundhog Day celebrations into one weekend.

Groundhog Day

Typically in an odd numbered year so we celebrate at home. We considered breaking with tradition and travelling as it was an exciting Sunday Groundhog Day.

The excitement was palpable as we settled in at 7am to watch the live feed from Punxsutawney. As always the show was spectacular, Punxsutawney Phil predicted a late Spring in front of a huge enthusiastic crowd.

One positive thing about the Wiarton Willie festival this year is that it was easy to find on YouTube which is an improvement. Otherwise, it fell to Willie to carry the entire event on his own and he did perform very well indeed, but the rest of the event was quite lackluster. Willie predicted an early Spring.

This year Star and April travelled to Savannah Georgia for the General Beauregard Lee Groundhog Day festival. Click here for the startling story of their trip, the first time since beginning their annual GHD celebrations that they actually missed the festival.

While we are talking about General Beauregard Lee, here is a photo of his home:

Pi Day

This year’s pie was from Wanda’s Pie in the Sky in Kensington Market in Toronto. Definitely a unique pie boutique, highly recommended.

Pictures

In the period from Winter through mid-summer, I was keeping you up to date on the drama of One Drive and embedding. The conclusion is that I’m abandoning embedding. For this reason, photos that you see directly on the site are degraded so that they will not degrade the site’s performance. To see the original version of the photos on this post, click here
