Allowing comments on a blog can be dicey proposition.  Open comments actually attract a lot spam; I configured the site to intercept all comments so that I can delete the rubbish before anyone sees it. In 2010, when I started working with WordPress, I finally got tired of it and just turned off the comment feature.  In this incarnation, I installed the most popular spam blocking service and left commenting on. Commenting will never be on for photo galleries but if you see the comment block open in a blog post and you feel like commenting, feel free, I would love to see some.  Remember, though, the comment box is meant for public and viewable comments.
