We have added a late January vacation tied to Groundhog Day.

We were caught in the mega storm that shut down every major city North East of Charlotte North Carolina including Washington and New York. We were driving ahead of the snow plows between Beckley and Wytheville Virginia. Close to the worst conditions I have seen but I was willing to continue had they not closed the highway. We ended up diverting around the Blue Ridge Mountains via Knoxville, Chattanooga and Atlanta. Including the delay caused by the snow, that added 7 hours to a pretty long trip.

Later that day at Spruce Creek was special; the community puts on an annual bonfire and air show, 25 pilots flew in a formation team. The private display at the private airport is especially spectacular, you will never be in a better position to view an aerial display than if you are at Spruce Creek. Thanks to Val for the photos.

We took some time to visit the winter home of John D. Rockefeller. The exhibit includes a room dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America; and, an exhibit of Hungarian traditional costume. It is actually a very charming and modest attraction managed entirely by volunteers. It can be seen quite effectively in a couple of hours.
