Vacation 2015 – Post 2

Our good friends Mike and Audrey Myrick were our hosts in Halifax, we had a such a great time so we can’t thank you enough. I got to drive his ’65 Corvette. Bernie is in a couple of the photos, he arranged for a tour of the IMP hangers. I reported to Mike and worked quite a bit with Bernie through 2 years in Moscow and 7 years in Cyprus. I hope that we will meet again soon.

The flight to the Magdalen Islands took 1 hour and 10 minutes; a great use of a light plane … on the surface would require hours to get to Souris P.E.I. followed by a 5 hour ferry trip. We were lucky to get a direct routing, there was a lot of weather nearby but our trip was very smooth. The photos approaching the island are pretty poor (they are actually tiny pieces of the original photo) but I left them in anyway. Interesting airport but it is a bit of a pain to have to bring your own tie down gear.

Havre Aubert Island is the southernmost island. It was kind of damp and foggy but there was no rain and the break from the heat was pleasant. We hiked inland in one of the villages. We spent a bit of time on the beach. The beaches in the Magdalen Islands are unbelievable, one of them stretches over 100 kms. There is no supervision on the beaches and the tides and currents can be quite dangerous.
