Viewing Photos

The photos are displayed on pages using a wall format in 3 columns … you may double click any photo to see the photo in its proper ratio and larger. Once you have clicked on a photo you may navigate forward by clicking on the right side of the photo or navigate backwards by clicking on the left side of the photo. You can also download any photo that you have highlighted using your browser photo download.

Additional slide show and photo options are available to Google+ users. Prior to rebuilding the site, the photos were being delivered using a variety of formats, some actually installed on the site. Now, all photos displayed on the site are also available on Google+. If you read my posts on the old site, you know that my patriotism for Facebook, never huge, diminishes with every passing upgrade, policy change and privacy rule. Feel free to friend me on Google+, you will find another route to much of the site content.

Of course, this begs the question of why I keep doing this, the photos are pretty much all that goes on here and both Facebook and Google+ (neither of which existed when I first started abelfamily.ca) manage photos quite well. The first version of abelfamily.ca was done with page design software, html coding and third party gallery systems. True, I always liked the idea of presenting photos in a way that people can view them if they want to and not if they don’t; but, I was interested in maintaining a skill set which, while far from expert, was still worth knowing. Actually the switch to WordPress in 2010 reduced the amount of work required but the idea is still the same. Better to keep doing even a little than to allow the skills to atrophy.
