October 2021 Vacation

Among many changes in 2021, we vacation in October, August was too tense.

This year’s vacation was a one week trip to Vancouver accompanied by Sam and Trevor, followed by a few days at home relaxing and an overnight trip to the Guelph area and a visit to the Halton Radial Railway.

Ferry Ride to Swartz Bay

We made a quick trip to Vancouver Island; here is my photo from the ferry crossing from Tsawassen to Swartz Bay, click on the photo for more.

Here is one of Sam’s photos, click on the photo for more.

Malahat Mountain

Our trip through Victoria was quite whirlwind. To insure that we had a booking back to Vancouver, we opted to travel from Duke Point near Nanaimo to Tsawassen rather than our original plan to travel to Horseshoe Bay. Here is one of my photos from the summit of Malahat mountain. Click on the photo for more.

Duke Point, Surrey, New Westminster

Check out 2 sets of photos below for a variety of photos from our departure from Duke Point on the B.C. Ferry; also from Surrey and New Westminster, click on the photos below for more.

Photos from Surrey and New Westminster? Anver and Yasmin are moving to Queensborough with frequent ferry service to downtown New Westminster; how cool is that!

Dr. Sam

This trip was the first family gathering in over a year and a half so we used the opportunity to celebrate Sam’s PhD which was granted in June 2020. According to Sam’s express request, the celebration was held at the New Westminster Old Spaghetti Factory. Sorry no photos from the celebration which was devoted to fun. In case 2 photos of a small additional celebration at Anver and Yasmin’s house are not enough, feel free to click on both for many more.

White Rock

Check out Sam’s photos of our visit to White Rock, rainy, I will admit, but not to be missed.

And Some Final Notes

Air travel in pandemic times was a bit more tedious than usual but the precautions were reasonable and we felt quite safe throughout the process. Happily, everyone was on board with the restrictions and the flights were quite pleasant under the circumstances.

We did visit Cheesecake etc. but the results, while good, were not what we were used to so there was an element of disappointment there.

To all visitors to B.C., take the ferry reservation system seriously, we regretted driving up (which was quite normal in the past).

B.C. restauranteurs are very serious about vaccination restrictions, be prepared. We found our Ontario credentials accepted unconditionally.

Thanks to Anver, Yasmin and Zabeena, this trip was about family connections which we treasure.
