Alberta

In mid June, we travel to Alberta.

We have a lot of connection to Alberta, we have lived in Calgary and Lake Louise. Regular readers of the blog will note many Edmonton-based entries as we visited Mumtaz’s parents, brother and family over the years.

Calgary

Forest Fire smoke is common in the West in summer but this year it is a national phenomena. There were days where we wore N95 masks to venture out.

We had a wonderful reunion with Cindy, click on the photo below for our tour of the Aviation Museum.

Hotel openings are quite special and I have been fortunate to participate in 5 of them over my career. I remain in touch with colleagues from each so no surprise that I met up with Dave now living in Calgary, we were colleagues at the opening of the Meridien Vancouver. We spent a great afternoon going over old times and catching up otherwise. Sorry, no photos.

A real highlight of our visit to Calgary was being at the ceremonies for new born Naiyah. Normally I would post a photo here on the page and have you click on the photo to see more. In the case, the photos that I received are somehow unembeddable so; click here for photos of adorable Naiyah, proud parents Aliya and Nushad and proud grandparents Shamim and Nazir.

Drumheller

Edmonton

Yasmin joins us in Edmonton, we visit with Nazim and Rozmin who were especially hospitable. Tasneem and Jerry joined us for an evening and; how lucky, Nabil and Farah were visiting from London. Sorry, no photos from the family events.

Here is a photo of Yasmin and Mumtaz. It was our first visit to the somewhat quirky Tru branded hotel.

This photo is more than just the unusual chairs; the weather throughout our Edmonton stop was dreadful but, I think, welcome, we were less than 200 kms from the nearest forest fire.

On the Road Home

Speaking of hotel openings, I tracked our old and very dear friend Willy who was a colleague from the opening of the Chateau Airport Calgary Hotel. Thanks for a terrific evening.

Our return flight was cancelled, travel is full of adventure these days but we returned safe and sound with great memories of our trip to Alberta.
