2020, Port Dover, Sandbanks, What

Summer 2020

Some the most fun that I have writing this blog comes from the entry that I make in early September describing the events of our vacation which always takes place in the last half of August. Often, I also do the late July long weekend entry at the same time and there are usually lots of photos stories etc. This year is obviously very different but let’s be clear; it is one thing to be disappointed about not being able to travel and another to be suffering from covid or being ill in general and worried about the health system; or, to be struggling financially or psychologically.

Most of the summer was wrapped around walks, hikes, drives etc. Pretty much like everyone else. For a number of reasons, no flying until very late in the season, more coming soon.

Our truncated vacation consisted of more hikes, walks and drives but we took a long day trip to Sandbanks in Prince Edward County. It was always on the bucket list, we had a great time, the trails were very good, the beaches are the result of a unique geography, the towns and drives are picturesque, altogether successful. We also did a trip to Port Dover, mainly because we passed it many times on our annual late spring trip to the Erie shore, it was nice but we missed the only outlet for fresh Lake Erie fish by about 4 minutes.

There are very few photos … the first 3 are from a drive that we took to Port Colborne, Wainfleet etc. along Lake Erie in Niagara. It occurred to us that we were close to friends from our dancing group so we called figuring that we would chat through their doorway … turns out that they have a terrific deck that looks out over the beach, accessible from outside the house and enormous; perfect for a visit in covid times; the other photos are from Sandbanks and Port Dover.
