2024, What

Catching up

As seems to happen every year, I let the website fall behind in late winter and spring. Unlike most years, there is quite a lot to catch up on.

Pi Day

The new tradition for pre Pi Day pilgrimage is to find some sort of special pie for Pi Day. This year, we travel to Milton for Chudleigh’s Pie. Frozen Chudleigh’s pies are available all over Ontario and it seems that there is no point in travelling to Milton as you will find nothing that you couldn’t find in a selected supermarket near you. Still we documented the pilgrimage and enjoyed the day as you will see.

Quick Stop Enroute

Stop at the Burlington International Air Terminal, Mumtaz had never visited before.

Otherwise, Pi Day celebrations were splendid and we appreciated the many greetings received during the day.

Sam’s Birthday

Check out this post on Sam and Trevor’s trip to Haute Goat for her birthday.

And here Sam learns to make paratha from Mumtaz as part of her birthday party.

And here is Sam’s Birthday Cookie

Eclipse

Too bad that it was very cloudy but an enormously significant event, second time for me.

Quick Trip to Montreal

Early in May, we drop in on Rehana, Naeem and kids in Montreal. Had a great time and Mumtaz picked up a cool present too.

Mothers’ Day

No photos from Mothers’ Day this year; we focused on choosing plants for our expanded garden with Sam doing extensive research. We have expanded our garden and most of the choices went very well; next year we will fill in with the successful choices.

Trip to Altmar

Altmar is a small town south of Watertown, New York roughly on the way between 1000 Islands and St. Catharines on the U.S. route. There is an interesting hotel that is worth visiting for a relaxing getaway on the shores of the Salmon River. Apparently the Salmon River is famous for fishing. It’s a great stop for rest and relaxation.

Youth Orchestras

You may recall from last August, that I travelled to McKellar, Ontario to hear the end of season concert of the Interprovincial Music Camp. The Concert Orchestra was conducted by the conductor of the Oakville Youth Symphony and I was quite impressed so I resolved to attend their performance. Turned out that I missed a winter performance but I did attend the end of May concert. I attended a Niagara Symphony performance in March and found out that there exists a Niagara Youth Orchestra; I attended their March performance and (the day before Oakville) I attended their end of season May concert. This will all become part of the every year’s calendar as I get quite a kick out of attending youth orchestra concerts so expect to hear about IMC, Niagara Youth and Oakville’s youth orchestras in the future.

Here is a photo of the Niagara Symphonic orchestra.

I quite enjoyed the Niagara Youth concerts with some nitpicks. The Oakville Youth Symphony performances were awesome.

Fathers’ Day

A great trip to Primitive Designs in Port Hope, Ontario followed by a great dinner at our current favourite Chinese restaurant.
