Photo Problems Part 2

WARNING TECH TALK AHEAD

So here are the potential solutions to the embedding problem that I discussed in the last post.

Option 1 is to find a WordPress plug-in that manages the connection between OneDrive and the blog. On paper, this is actually the best solution; however, I have tried it in the past with frankly terrible results. The problem is that when the plug-in ceases to function, all the work that was created with plug in becomes unusable and must be redone.

Option 2 is to store the photos someplace else where the embed function is working. I really considered this but actually many of the competitors to OneDrive handle all this much less easily. Others do well but are not as secure, in my estimation as OneDrive.

Option 3 is to abandon embedding. WordPress has media capabilities but there are problems with using them. The problems can be overcome and I will be moving to this solution. The biggest advantage of this approach is that it can be easily abandoned should things improve and Microsoft solves the embed problem.

To display photos without embedding, the photos must be part of the blog system. Instead of a link to photo, the actual photo will load when the blog post loads. This could have a major impact on throughput so any photos you see on the blog from this message forward will be substantially degraded to keep the blog performing properly.
